John Sidney Schillo

JOHN SIDNEY SCHILLO Memorial services for Mancos resident John Sidney Schillo are pending with Ertel Funeral Home. John was born on October 18, 1924 in Wheeling, W.V. the son of John Clark and Sadie (McCutcheon) Schillo. He passed away on Friday, April 22, 2011 at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 86. John proudly served his country in the United States Marines in the 6th Defense Battalion at the Battle of Midway Island. He was honorably discharged from service on November 15, 1945. On December 14, 1946 John married Evelyn Uhlir in Chicago, Ill. He was a member of Kiwanis, Elks, and Rotary. An avid baseball fan, John made it well known to his friends and family that he wouldn’t leave this world until his beloved Cubs won the World Series. Surviving John are his daughter, Darla Sanders and husband, Robert of Mancos; his grandchildren, John Troy Sanders of Las Vegas, N.M., Bryan Ray Sanders and wife, Charda of Aztec, N.M., and Jeffrey Alan Gery of Abilene, Tex.; and his great-grandchildren, John T.W. Sanders, Adrianna Sanders, Sierra Sanders, Daniella Sanders, Zachary Sanders, and Brianna O’Leary. John was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Evelyn Schillo; by one brother; and by one sister.
