JOHN LAWRENCE GALLEGOS Funeral Mass for longtime Mancos resident John Lawrence Gallegos will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 25 at St. Rita Catholic Church in Mancos. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Montezuma County VFW Post #5231. Visitation has been scheduled for Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. John was born January 30, 1937 in Conejos, Colo. the son of Victor and Josephine (Archuleta) Gallegos. He passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the age of 76 at Southwest Memorial Hospital. On September 5, 1964, John married Roberta G. Silva in Durango. They shared 49 years of marriage. John worked for Civil Service as well as being a self-employed mechanic. He enjoyed the outdoors especially when it involved hunting, fishing and camping. John loved to dance. John is survived by his wife, Roberta Gallegos of Mancos; son, Eugene A. Gallegos and wife, Dee of Mancos; daughters, Melinda Murphy and Melaine Brassill both of Mancos; grandchildren, Jason Elledge, Billy Gallegos, Brian Murphy, Tony Gallegos, Sabrina Murphy, Skylan Brassill, and Jullian Brassill; great granddaughter, Kamryn Murphy; brothers, Victor Gallegos, Ted Gallegos, Orland Gallegos, Raymond Gallegos, and Billy Gallegos; and sisters, Benny Hernandez, Emily Hernandez, Gomie Garcia, and Rosie Martinez. He was preceded in death by his son, John "Johnny" Gallegos; parents, Victor and Josephine Gallegos; and brother, Danny Gallegos.
