JOHN GORDON BYERS Memorial services for Cortez resident John Gordon Byers will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 26 at Arriola Bible Church. Pastor Kent Slyter will officiate. There will be a gathering for friends and family at the Byers residence immediately following the memorial service at 27430 Road H.6 Cortez. John was born July 14, 1927 in Denver, Colo. the son of Porter Hackney and Ethel Lilly (Green) Byers. He passed away on August 27, 2015 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 88. On August 26, 2004, John married Sharon Irene Goeney in Cortez. John spent 30+ years in upper level management with Centurylink. He attended Arriola Bible Church and various horse clubs. In his free time, John enjoyed oil painting, horse activities and wood working. Surviving John are his wife of 11 years, Sharon Byers of Cortez; his children, Dan Byers and wife, Anne of Loveland, Colo., and Johnnette Patterson of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and his grandchildren, Wesley and Wiley Byers, and Chyna and Natasha Patterson. John was preceded in death by his parents; and by two brothers and two sisters.
