JOHN FREDERICK NEWMAN JR. Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident John Frederick Newman Jr. will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Silverton, Colo. Reverend Sunny Bossenmaier will officiate. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5 to 6 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. John was born on October 11, 1923 in Silverton, Colo. the son of John Frederick Newman Sr. and Nettie Lavanche (Triplett) Newman. He passed away on Monday, October 13, 2008 at Valley Inn Nursing Home at the age of 85. John served his country in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He belonged to the 92nd and 303rd bomb group. John was active in the livestock business, Elks, and he volunteered his time with local 4-H groups. John was a gifted poet. He enjoyed writing poems and short stories. In his free time, John also liked working with wood, lapidary, genealogy, and making jewelry. Surviving John are his daughters, Beverly Charbonneau of Minot, N.D., and Sunny Bossenmaier of Cortez; his grandchildren, Melissa Bennett of Orlando, Fla., Michelle Dunbar of Anderson, S.C., Amanda Charbonneau of Seneca, S.C., Amy Charbonneau of Columbia, S.C., Jessica Charbonneau of Minot, N.D., Tara Charbonneau of Minot, N.D., and Casey Bossenmaier of Sacramento, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence Bell Newman; and his siblings, Crystal, Violet, George, Thelma, Walter, Edrie, Dona, and Nettie.
