John Emil Kuenzler

September 24, 1924 — March 12, 2009

JOHN EMIL KUENZLER John Emil Kuenzler passed away at his home in Cortez on March 12, 2009. A lifetime resident of Cortez, John is survived by his wife of sixty-one years Helen, sisters Wilma McAdams, Frieda Whitener, sons John A. (Susan) and Jim, daughter Roanne, grandson Zane (Heidi), and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, William and Abigail, and a sister, Annetta Haralson. John graduated from Cortez High School and spent time at UC Davis and Wisconsin University where he lettered in football. He served in the navy as a radio operator in WWII and later in life was a member of the American Legion. After the war, he returned to farming in the Cortez area. He was instrumental in constructing the Pony League Baseball Park and Conquistador Golf Course. He enjoyed playing golf and shooting pool at the Elks Club where he was member. John's ashes will be spread on the family farm. In lieu of flowers the family recommends donations to the Scott McComb Memorial Scholarship or the Cortez Public Library.
