September 11, 1920 — March 17, 2010

JOE HAROLD HEARNE Graveside inurnment services for area resident Joe Harold Hearne will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27 at Summit Ridge Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. The family requests you bring your own chair to the service. Joe was born on September 11, 1920 in Cashion, Ariz. the son of O.B. and Matt (Sullivan) Hearne. He passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Vista Mesa Assisted Living at the age of 89. Joe grew up and graduated from high school in Scottsdale, Ariz. in the class of 1938. In 1941, one night at a dance, he met and fell in love at first sight with Lois Conoley from Cortez. They married soon after. Joe joined the U.S. Marine Corp and went to the war in the South Pacific where he was stationed in Hawaii. He returned home, bought a farm in the Lebanon area and proceeded to father four Baby Boomers. Joe lived the rest of his life in Montezuma County working and raising children. He was a bird-watcher, a hunter, fisherman and moki digger. Joe’s many friends will miss his happy smiles and jokes. Sadly, by the time he passed, Joe had forgotten almost everything, but he never forgot to tell the girls they were pretty and he never forgot how to dance. Memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 701 Camino del Rio Ste. 321, Durango, CO 81301.
