JOAN LOUISE MALEY Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Joan Louise Maley will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 22 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Rev. Erika Meyer will officiate. The daughter of John C. and Louise (Fox) Humphreys, Joan was born on June 29, 1922 in Llanfair, Caereinion, Wales. She passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Madison House at the age of 84. On July 7, 1940, Joan married Leo C. Maley Sr. in Yuma, Ariz. Her greatest passion in life was her children and grandchildren. She loved arts and crafts and spent a number of years running her store, Joan’s Shoppe, featuring craftwork from various contributors of the area. Surviving Joan are her children, Leo C. Maley Jr. and wife, Arlene of Pleasant Hill, Tenn., Richard G. Maley and wife, Lorraine of Pecos, N.M., Thomas A. Maley and wife, Vicki of Cortez, Timothy J. Maley and wife, Pat of Denver, Colo., and Jill Dugan and husband, Mike also of Denver; her son-in-law, Raymond Gerlach of Fort Collins, Colo.; her brother, Richard P. Humphreys and wife, Ruth of Dove Creek; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo C. Maley Sr.; her daughter, Janet G. Gerlach; and her siblings, John “Jack” Humphreys, and Margarete Gay Etchandy. Memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s name to Madison House or Hospice of Montezuma.
