JOAN ANN WHITE Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Joan Ann White will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 21 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Arriola Cemetery. Visitation has been scheduled for Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Joan was born on April 18, 1935 in Stillwell, Okla. the daughter of Richard Warren and Lottie Esther (Brown) Batt. She passed away on Monday, August 17, 2009 at her residence following and extended illness at the age of 74. Joan moved her family to Cortez in 1968, allowing her to be closer to her Brethren in the Church of the First Born of Cortez. Joan was well known throughout the community from working at various businesses including Mountain Bell, the county Treasurer's Office, and Mesa Verde National Park. Joan was a blood mother of six, but a heart mother to many. She was well loved by all and will be greatly missed. Surviving Joan are her children, Ralph Prideaux of Cortez, Kathy Petrose and husband, Mike of Dolores, Tommie Johnson and husband, Allen of Cortez, Connie Wood and Gary Gibson of Soldotna, Alaska, and Sherri Spore and husband, Roger of Dolores. Joan also leaves behind her grandchildren, Lacey Johnson of Cortez, Taryn Miller of Denver, Colo., Samantha Miller of Westminster, Colo., Kerri Stillwell and husband, Houston of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kandice Newby of Kingman, Ariz., Kayla Spore of Dolores, Kamber Spore of Oak Creek, Colo., Kraig Spore of Dolores, Robert Conner and wife, Carol of Kentucky, Matthew Conner and wife, Victoria of Anchorage, Alaska, Curtis Conner and wife, Christine of Kasilos, Alaska, Katie Arnold and husband, Drew of Blanchard, Okla.; numerous great-grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Taylor and husband, Max of Conroe, Tex. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; by her daughter, Sheila Ann Conner; and by her siblings, Juanita Woods, Dickie Parker, and Sharon McDonald.
