JIMMIE HESTER SIMS RODD Graveside services for longtime Cortez resident Jimmie Hester Sims Rodd will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11 at Cortez Cemetery. Pastor Jimmie Burton will officiate. Visitation has been scheduled for Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to noon at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Jimmie was born July 29, 1921 in Clarkwood, Tex. the daughter of James William and Daisy Earle (Hester) Sims. She passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 91. Jimmie served our country proudly as an Army nurse during World War II. On May 27, 1944 she married Lavern Eugene "Jack" Rodd in Gatton, Australia. The couple shared many loving years together before Jack's passing in 1993. Jimmie belonged to the Garden Club and she was a devout member of Lifeway Baptist Church. Jimmie was active in her church serving as librarian for many years, she taught bible school and Sunday school, and she was active in the Girl's Auxiliary Group and Women's Missionary Union. In her free time, Jimmie enjoyed sewing, crocheting and cooking. Surviving Jimmie are her children, Ralph R. Rodd and wife, Rose C. of Puyallup, Wash., James Randolph Rodd and wife, Marian of Cortez, and Dana Rodd Heck and husband, Rick of Lakeside, Ariz.; and her grandchildren, Cindie Miller and husband, Shawn of Cortez, Randy Rodd and wife, Cottin of Dolores, Christina Lynn Rodd-Holodnick and husband, John of Puyallup, Wash., Janet S.C. Arai and husband, Daniel of Houston, Tex., Scott A. Rodd of Houston, Tex., Carlie Sue Heck-Valichnac and husband, Corey of Lakeside, Ariz., Craig David Heck and wife, Sarah of Show Low, Ariz., and Natalie Rae Heck of Lakeside, Ariz. Jimmie also leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and her brother, Richard Carol Sims and wife, Thelma of San Antonio, Tex. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Lavern "Jack" Rodd; and by her siblings, Billie Stinson, Ray Sims, and DeLores Kelly. Memorial contributions may be made in Jimmie Hester Sims Rodd's name to the Salvation Army, Lifeway Baptist Church, Library Fund, or to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
