Funeral services for Jimmie D. Burton will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Mancos First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans of Montezuma County. A visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
Jimmie was born March 23, 1923 in Streetman, Tex. the son of John W. and Nancy E. (Henson) Burton. He passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at his residence at the age of 98.
Jimmie spent his childhood in Navarro County, Tex. Jimmie went on to attend and graduate from East Texas Baptist College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He went on to devote 79 years of his life pastoring Baptist churches in Texas and Colorado. Jimmie also served our country as he enlisted in the United States Army during World War II.
Surviving Jimmie are his children, James (Jan) Burton of Grand Junction, Colo., and Mary Ann Sanders of Cortez; his grandchildren, Ron (Melissa) Biles, Jason (Elaine) Biles, Greg (Jolene) Burton, Bonnie Burton, and Jared (Kelsey) Sanders; and by his great-grandchildren, Aaron, Matthew, and Nathan Biles, Hannah and Noah Biles, and Kadin and Jayden Sanders. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Allen) Burton; by his daughter, Nancy (Burton) Biles; by his son-in-law, Raymond Biles; and by his brother, Billy Gene Burton. The Burton family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to all of Jimmie’s caregivers, Mary Ann Sanders, Robert Sanders and the wonderful staff at Hospice of Montezuma.
