Jim Norman Mathies

JIM NORMAN MATHIES Jim Norman Mathies passed away at his home on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the age of 71 after a long struggle with skin cancer. Jim was born on September 2, 1937 in Baca County, Colo. He was the second son of Don Mathies and Dorothy Dickey Mathies. The family moved to their farm in Lewis in 1938 where Jim attended elementary school and graduated from Montezuma County High School in 1955. In the early 1960's Jim served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea with the 101 Engineering Division. He was involved in the logging industry for most of his life, but in later life he turned to farming and machine repair. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brothers, Ed, Walt, John, and Stan; and by his sister, Nellie all of the area. Jim also leaves behind his nephew, Brian; his grandnephews, John Williams and Bronson Sanford; his nieces, Pamela Williams and Bobbi Sanford; and by his grandniece, Abby Williams. At Jim's request, cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
