JIM "SONNY" BECHER A Celebration of Life for lifelong Cortez resident Jim "Sonny" Becher will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 15 at the Lewis Arriola Community Center. Mrs. Leah Bedker will officiate. Jim was born on December 23, 1942 in Cortez to James Harmon and Frances Mae (Carlson) Becher. He passed away on January 2, 2012 in Mesa, Ariz. at the age of 69. Jim loved gardening and raising cattle. He also enjoyed to hunt and fish. Jim is survived by his daughters, Leah Bedker of Cortez, Kristy Sloan and husband, Gary of Eucha, Okla., and Jennifer Hatting and husband, Tim of Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Pauline Filener of Lebanon; brothers-in-law, Jack Willett of Dolores, Joe McDonald of Arizona, Rick McDonald of Lewis, Tim McDonald of Summit Ridge, Larry McDonald of Lebanon, Johnny McDonald of Cortez, Jimmy McDonald of Cortez, Dennis Hackett of Lebanon, Henry Hackett of Montrose, Colo., and Casey Filener of Arriola; and his sister-in-law, Venita Kyle of Cortez. Preceding Jim in death are his parents, James and Frances Becher; his first wife, Joylene Kay McDonald; and his second wife, Deniece Filener. Donations may be made in Jim's name for the going support of the Lewis Arriola Community Center.
