J. G. "JAY" PULTS Funeral services for Cortez resident J.G. "Jay" Pults will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 14 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Military Honors will be conducted by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Cremation will take place following the services. Jay was born June 9, 1932 in Jacksboro, Texas the son of Jim and Carrie (Harold) Pults. He passed away at his Cortez home on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the age of 79. Jay proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. At the age of 18 he began a lifelong career as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry. He retired from that career only two years ago. In 1965 Jay married Lavina E. Morgan in Pueblo, Colo. The couple moved to this area in 1980, first in Yellow Jacket and more recently to Cortez. Jay was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Elks. In his free time Jay enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening. Surviving Jay are his wife, Lavina Pults of Cortez; two sons, James "Jim" Pults and wife, Kelly of Cortez and Jeff Pults of Yellow Jacket, Colo.; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and his siblings, Guen Pults of Colorado, Fred "Bill" Pults and wife, Marcy of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Don Pults of Temple, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Carrie Pults; and two siblings, Ruth Nicks and an infant baby sister. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of J.G. Pults with the American Cancer Society.
