J.C. HAMILTON Graveside services for longtime Cortez resident J.C. Hamilton will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 31 at the Cortez Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. J.C. was born on June 1, 1921 in Kiowa City, Okla., the son of Jack Haze and Clyde Green (Cassidy) Hamilton. He passed away on Monday, August 28, 2006 at the Palisades Living Center in Palisade, Colo. at the age of 85. On November 23, 1950, J.C. married Avis Ardith Hawkinson in Kansas City, Missouri. J.C. joined the United States Army and served his country during WWII. He was an active member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Elks Lodge 1789. J.C. owned and operated Ute Trading Co. and at one point in time owned a tavern. Surviving J.C. are his children, Victoria A. Parker and her husband Dr. Jim Parker of Grand Junction, and George L. Ferree and wife, Gwen also of Grand Junction; his siblings, Eddie Hamilton of Ontario, Calif., Elmer “Dutch” Hamilton of Cortez, and Elinora Self of Arizona; and four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Avis; three brothers, and two sisters.
