James Roy Roberts

JAMES ROY ROBERTS Memorial services for lifelong area resident, James Roy Roberts will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 17 at the Cortez Church of Christ. Mr. Hunt Zumwalt will officiate. Jim was born in Mancos on May 3, 1934, the son of Edwin Amos and Florence (Hightchew) Roberts. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Monday, June 14, 2004 at the age of 70. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Jim served as Post Commander for the Dolores Post of the American Legion. Jim loved everything about the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He also had a love for woodworking and pruning trees. Surviving Jim is his beloved wife, Anna Mae (Coppinger) Roberts whom he married Dec. 27, 1984 at the Cortez Church of Christ. Eight children, Jim Roberts and wife, Susan of Aztec, N.M., Bill Roberts of Bastrop, Texas, Charles Roberts of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kathy Batten of Florida, Mary La Doux of Westbrookville, N.Y., Elizabeth Garduno of Grand Island, Neb., Virginia Higly of Fountain, Colo., and Patricia Morgan of Junction City, Ore., 23 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and a brother, Bill Roberts of Summit Ridge, Colo. also survive Jim.
