JAMES ROBERT “JIM” AITKEN James Robert “Jim” Aitken was born on Nov. 11, 1941 in Englewood, Colo. to Vern and Vera May (Willis) Aitken. He passed away on Monday, June 27, 2005 at his residence at the age of 63. Jim was part of the first graduating class at Littleton High School and then went on to attend C.S.U. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1964 where he was attached to the N.S.A. and was a Russian linguist. Jim was in Berlin when the wall went up. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and has been a member of the V.F.W. Jim resided in Big Thompson Canyon, Colo. where he married Patricia E. Lowe on Oct. 8, 1980. He was Fire Chief in Big Thompson Canyon for 8 years and was on the Loveland Fire Protection Board. Jim moved to Cortez 16 years ago and owned and operated the Glade Sports Bar and Grill. He was passionate about horses and the welfare of both wild horses and mustangs. Jim is survived by his wife, Pat Aitken of Dolores; sons, Bill Reichelt of Cortez and Brad Reichelt of Englewood, Colo.; grandchildren, Ashlee, Brandon, and Caitlyn Reichelt of Englewood, Colo.; mother, Vera Aitkin of Littleton, Colo.; brother, John Aitken and wife, Jane of Littleton, Colo., and sisters, Julie and Janice. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to Citizens State Bank. The funds will be forwarded to a wild horse rescue. A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, July 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Glade Sports Bar and Grill.
