James Lee Roemer Sr.

JAMES LEE ROEMER SR. James Lee Roemer Sr. a longtime resident of Mancos passed away at his home on Friday, October 30, 2009 at the age of 64. He was born the son of George and Helen (Roth) Roemer on April 26, 1945 in Livingston, Mont. Loving known by his family and friends as "Roemer" he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. During his enlistment he served three tours of duty in Vietnam. Roemer worked as an outfitter for a dude ranch and in his free time he enjoyed handling guns and working with leather as well as a good cold beer or a drink of whiskey. Surviving Roemer are his mother, Helen of Phoenix, Ariz.; his children, Vanessa Varner of Tucson, Ariz., and Buck Roemer and wife, Heather, of Mancos; his stepchildren, Amber Porre of Tucson, Ariz., Kristine DeWitt, Penny Kitchen, Jennifer Kitchen, and Charlie Kitchen all of Mulberry Grove, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; his companion, Deb Riddle of Mancos; and his horses, Jake and Whiskey. Roemer also leaves behind a host of friends located in the Four Corners Area. Preceding Roemer in death were his father; and the mother of his children, Rose Norris. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family c/o P.O. Box 1251, Mancos, Colo. 81321. Cremation is planned with memorial services to be held at a later date.
