JAMES J. “JJ” THOMAS James J. “JJ” Thomas was born on August 15, 1925 in Alameda, Calif., the son of Nelson Stuart Thomas and Florence (Billard) Thomas. He departed this life to eternal rest on Sunday, June 4, 2006 at the age of 80 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home in Cortez. JJ retired from the Oakland California Police Department after 21 years of public service as a patrolman. He spent the last 13 years as an OPD motorcycle officer, Oakland’s finest. Following his retirement from the OPD, he enjoyed several years working in his own business as a private investigator both in the San Francisco Bay area and Phoenix, Ariz. JJ devoted better than two and a half years to the U.S. Army during WWII. He was honorably discharged from service on March 16, 1946 in Camp Beale, Calif. He leaves to mourn his passing in Cortez his family, Rita Eitel, Louie Galyon, and Ray Eitel; along with numerous new friends he has made since his move to Cortez in November 2004. Cremation has taken place. No services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made in JJ’s name to Hospice of Montezuma, Inc., P.O. Box 740, Cortez, Colorado 81321, or to a favorite charity.
