JAMES H. “JIM” LESLIE Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident, James H. “Jim” Leslie will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2005 at the Evangel Assembly of God Church. Pastor Jeff McDonell will be officiating. A visitation has been scheduled for Thursday evening at the Ertel Memorial Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Jim was born on March 5, 1931 in Cuero, Tex. the son of Frank James and Viola (Brown) Leslie. He passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at his home in Cortez at the age of 74. On May 29, 1949 in Tucumcari, N.M., Jim married Jewell Dean Haserodt. The couple has shared 56 1/2 years of marriage. Jim retired after many years of long haul trucking and began his second career working at Montezuma-Cortez High School for nine years as the parking lot attendant. He attended and was a member of the Evangel Assembly of God Church and the Four Corner’s Good Sam’s Club. At one point, the Leslie’s spent 12 years in Wyoming. Jim truly loved the mountains. Hunting and camping were also passions of Jim’s. He leaves behind a beautiful family, including his beloved wife, Jewell Leslie of Cortez; his children, James L. Leslie and wife, Dana of Philadelphia, Penn., Michael Dean Leslie and wife, Marie of Grand Junction, Colo., Valerie Kay Jenkins and husband, Dave of Missoula, Mont., Lavonne Gay Pruit and husband, Dan of Port Lavaca, Tex., and Lisa Jane Harper and husband, Chip of Nampa, Ida. His 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Paul Leslie of Yoakum, Tex., Marion Crain of Bryan, Tex., Eunice Doyal of Boerne, Tex, and Evelyn Marton of San Antonio, Tex. also survive Jim. Preceding him in death were his parents.
