JAMES ELTON KIDD Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, James Elton Kidd will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29 at Lifeway Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Wednesday evening at Ertel Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Jim was born the son of Elton James and Jessie (Malone) Kidd on March 27, 1937 in Miami, Ariz. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at the age of 73. Jim was a 1955 graduate of Safford High School in Safford, Ariz. He became employed in the copper mills in San Manuel, Ariz.; working there for nine years. Jim moved to the Cortez area where he sold insurance for Farmers Insurance for 15 years. Jim went to work in the oil fields in 1978 as a safety supervisor. He remained there until his retirement in 2007. Jim was a member of Lifeway Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, camping and four wheeling in his free time. Surviving Jim are his wife of 27 years, Kathy Kidd of Cortez; his children, Mitch Kidd and wife, Susan of Cortez, Elton Kidd and wife, Carla of Cortez, Sherri Bowen and husband, Andrew of Cortez, Brian Kidd of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Shiloh Kidd and girlfriend, Lynn Violanta of Tempe, Ariz., Charleen Lagrone of Lake City, Tenn., Kathleen Griffin and husband, Danny of Cortez, and Susan Stovall of Monterey, Calif.; by 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; his sister, Gloria Dixon and husband, Calias of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Bea Cox and husband, Darell of Grand Junction, Colo.; brother-in-law, Franklin Patton and wife, Nancy of Grand Junction; and by his loving dogs, Benji, Aspen, and Keno. Preceding Jim in death were his parents; and after 26 of marriage, his first wife, Emma Jean (Kouts) Kidd. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of James E.
