JAMES DOUGLAS GOFF Services for Mancos resident James Douglas Goff will be held on Saturday, September 25 at 11:00 am St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mancos followed by a potluck gathering at 1:00 pm at Seas'nings at 319 W. Montezuma, Cortez. James was born on August 15, 1931 in Cottonwood, Ala., the son of James Lewis Goff and Mattie (Livingston) Goff. He passed away at his Mancos, Colo. home on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the age of 79. On June 6, 1983 James married Carolyn Krohn in Tracy, Calif. James, whose background was in psychology, worked as a human factors consultant in the aerospace industry for many years. His first love though, was photography, a craft he pursued passionately. His work is nationally known and has been exhibited at the Epcot Center in Florida. After retiring from aerospace in 1994, he and Carolyn moved to Cortez where he devoted himself full time to landscape and portrait photography. It was during this time, that he made several trips to Ireland, his ancestral homeland, where the landscape and people warmed his heart. James was an amazing man with widely varying skills and interests, but to those who knew him he was warm, funny, and a great teacher of life lessons. Influenced by his upbringing in the south, he loved to cook and took pleasure in making pies for people in the community who had done him kindnesses. He was affectionately known by many as "the pieman." James was a member of the Mancos Masonic Lodge and active in the Mancos Friends of the Library. He also took great joy serving as an acolyte in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mancos. Surviving James is his wife Carolyn Goff; his children, Jennifer Deutsch and husband Brian, of Hidden Lake, Calif. and Glynna Goff of Anacortes, Wash.; and his granddaughters Krista, Mary Elizabeth, Nikki, Ailin, and Brigid. Also surviving James are his sisters Jean Smith, Joyce Zarubin, and Charlotte Goff all of Maryville, Tenn.; along with numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. In lieu of donations or flowers, do a kindness for someone and think of James. He'd love it.
