James Abraham Halleck

JAMES ABRAHAM HALLECK James Abraham Halleck was born January 23, 1948 in Hammond, Ind. the son of Abraham and Ruth (Williams) Halleck. He passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango at the age of 65. James served his country during Vietnam in the United States Army Airborne. During his service, James received three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. While in Germany James was a tank driver and while on duty in Vietnam, he worked re-con with the Airborne. On January 1, 1976, James married Martha J. Beardslee in Evergreen, Colo. James was an active member of the local D.A.V. Chapter and the V.F.W. He spent his working career in residential construction and he also spent time as a computer consultant. In his free time, James enjoyed building and repairing stained glass, gold panning, studying astronomy; and spelunking. He proudly designed and built his own home, twice. Surviving James are his wife, Martha J. Halleck of Cortez; his step-children, Kristin Andersen and husband, Karl of Morrison, Colo., and Paul Kessler and wife, Laura of Thornton, Colo.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents; and by three sisters. Cremation has taken place and services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in James Halleck's name to the local chapter of Disabled American Veterans.
