JACK B. EATON Funeral services for longtime Dove Creek resident Jack B. Eaton will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 9 at the Dove Creek First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Cahone Cemetery. A visitation has been scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Jack was born on October 18, 1936 in Wichita, Kan. the son of James Bird and Lydia Josephine (Burns) Eaton. He passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 71. Jack worked as a miner for many years in the 50's and 60's in Colorado and New Mexico. In the late 60's and early 70's he became a police officer in Grants, N.M. Jack was also a truck driver and mechanic for a trucking company in Phoenix, Ariz. Jack and his wife, Almetta loved being together and they liked hunting and fishing. For years they saved aluminum cans and used the money to build their house which took about 10 years to build. They also did a lot of traveling together. Jack and Almetta loved each other so very much. Before her death on October 18, 2006, the couple had been married for 26 years. Surviving Jack are the mother of his children, and his ex-wife, Ernestine (Coppinger) Chadd and her husband, Kennith of Mancos; his children, Roxie Eaton of Dove Creek, Cheryl Grubb and husband, Warren of Dove Creek, James Bird Eaton and wife, Becky of Eureka, Nev., Mike Sheldon and wife, Lanna of Cortez; his stepchildren, Gene Elder and wife, Jeannie of Dallas, Tex. and Darrell Elder and wife, Monna of California; his sister, Lettie Blaisdell of Grants, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Almetta Eaton; his daughter, Mary Lou; his siblings, Mary, Helen, Jo, Frank, Ed, Robert; his grandson, James Casey Eaton; his stepdaughter, Ellen; his brother-in-law, Russell Blaisdell; and his niece, Gail Rhoderick.
