Iva Jean Hobbs

August 21, 1940 — November 2, 2013

IVA JEAN HOBBS Iva Jean Hobbs a recent resident of Vista Grande Inn in Cortez passed peacefully away on November 2, 2013. Memorial services will be held on at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 9 at The Event Center, 1441 Blanco Blvd, Bloomfield, N.M. Benny Cogburn of the Kingdom Connection will officiate the services. Iva Jean Hobbs was born August 21, 1940 in Broken Bow, Okla. to Iva "Buster" Hilton and Opal Jean (Hinsen) Goddard. Iva grew up in the Four Corners Area and moved to Vega, Tex. while raising her family. She did return back to the Four Corners where she was known for participation in volunteering at Catholic Charities, Echo Food Bank and Salvation Army. While raising her family she was involved in Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts as a scout leader. She loved roses and enjoyed growing them, gardening, cooking, baking, and arts and crafts. Survivors include two sisters, Pauline Shyrock and family of Aztec, N.M. and Elaine Renfro and family of Winslow, Ariz.; four children, Sherry Valdez of Bloomfield, N.M.; James Hobbs and wife, Tammy of Covington, Ga., Sheila Quezada of Bloomfield, N.M., and Shirley Baumann and husband, Mark of Lakeland, Fla. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Iva Buster Hilton; mother, Opal Jean Goddard; brother, Roy Dale Hilton; sister, Linda Gail Kennedy-Cimmaron; son-in-law, Delfigo Valdez; grandson, Jonathon Hobbs; and two granddaughters, Samantha Hobbs and Kelley Nicole Baumann. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Vista Grande Nursing Home, Southwest Memorial Hospital surgical/general floor staff and Ertel Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place and services will be announced at a later date.
