ISMEAL “MEL” MELQUIADEZ MONTANO Funeral services for Ismael “Mel” Melquiadez Montano are tentatively set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 19 at St. Jude Catholic Church with interment following at Peel Cemetery. Please contact Ertel Funeral Home to confirm service times. Visitation is planned for Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel with Rosary services following at 7 p.m. Mel, 80, of Cortez, went to the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007. He was born May 4, 1927 in Canjilon to Bernardina & Jeapito Montano. Mel married the love of his live, Adeline, on July 10, 1950. Through this union were born three daughters, Carmelita Sanchez and husband, Kirby, Donna Brackett and husband, Ken, and Lorraine Powell and husband, Steve; and son, Ernest who was given to the Lord in 1951. Mel joins his parents, four sisters, six brothers, and his precious son. Mel worked for Union Carbide for over 16 years and was disabled at age 50. The couple spent most their lives in Egnar, Colo. Mel was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His family was his passion. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, cutting wood, picking pinion nuts, and holding his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was known for his tamales, green chili, and papa’s which all family members would come from all over to eat. Mel spent the last few years in the loving care of his wife. Their love was proven and an inspiration to all until the Lord came for him. Mel fought a courageous battle with lung cancer. Mel is survived by his wife; three daughters; one sister, Ester and husband, Clotorio; four grandsons, four granddaughters, 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. We all have so many wonderful memories of this phenomenal man and he has made a great impact on many lives.
