IRMA MERLE LICK VANDERPOOL Irma Merle Lick Vanderpool was born May 28, 1916 in Williamsburg, Iowa the daughter of Leo G. and Lillian Mae (Cooperider) Gant. She passed away at Vista Grand Inn on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at the age of 91. A lifelong resident of Montrose, Irma had relocated to Cortez to be nearer to her daughter, April. On February 19, 1935 Irma married Jim Lick sharing 38 years of marriage before his death in 1973. To this union four children were born, Sonja, Lillian, Larry, and April. In 1988 Irma married Fred Vanderpool. Together they enjoyed 3 years together before his death in 1991. A very patriotic woman, Irma held memberships in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Disabled Veterans Auxiliary, an organization for World War I Veterans, and the Royal Neighbors. She was a dedicated and hard working employee retiring from both Russell Stover Candy and WalMart. When indoors she loved to crochet and free time spent outdoors found her riding horses. Mostly, though, she dearly loved time spent with her grandchildren. Surviving Irma are her three children, Lillian Nunn and husband, Roger of Fairmont, Neb., Larry Lick and wife, Virginia of Georgetown, Colo., and April Wilson and husband, Jerry of Cortez; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandbabies, and 9 great great grandchildren; and four sisters, Maxine Cotney and husband, Gene of Pueblo, Colo., Ada Newby of Montrose, Colo., Janith Fales and husband, Burton of Seattle, Wash., and Alice Roberts and husband, Con of Montrose, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Jim and Fred; her daughter, Sonja Lick; a sister, Rowena Warner; and her brother, Bud Gant. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Irma Vanderpool with Aspen Gardens Assisted Living or For Pets Sake Humane Society.
