IRENE CATHERINE ELIZABETH DOERFER Funeral services for longtime Mancos resident, Irene Catherine Elizabeth Doerfer will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 7 at the Mancos Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Reverend Bud Rousset will be officiating. A visitation has been scheduled for Friday afternoon at the Ertel Chapel from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Irene was born on February 12, 1911 in Norton, Kans. the daughter of Charles Daniel and Nellie Mae (Swift) Hansen. She passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at the Valley Inn Nursing Home at the age of 94. On May 15, 1929 in Wray, Colo. Irene married Lloyd Eugene Doerfer. Irene was a member of both the Order of Eastern Star and the Grange. She was a hard working woman who spent her career as an insurance agent selling Grange Insurance. She also helped out at their farm raising and caring for their sheep, which was their livelihood. Surviving Irene are her son, Pete Eugene Doerfer and wife, Yvonne of Mancos; her son-in-law, Pete Halls of San Antonio, Tex.; her granddaughters, Dianne Marie Doerfer and Evelyn Irene Cisney; and her great-grandchildren, Kalenne Doerfer, Nicholas Scott Cisney and Zachary Ryan Cisney. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lloyd Doerfer; her daughter, Wilma Jean Doerfer; and her brother, William Hansen. Memorial contributions can be made in Irene’s memory to the Valley Inn Nursing Home in Mancos.
