HURSCHEL K. COPPINGER Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident Hurschel K. Coppinger will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 31 at the Cortez Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Visitation has been scheduled for Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Hurschel passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the family home in Cortez. He was born December 31, 1920 to Thomas and Floy Coppinger in Cortez. Herschel graduated from Cortez High School and then joined the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1942. He received an honorable medical discharge in 1943. He married Chloris Cox of Arriola, Colo. on May 3, 1942 in Las Vegas, Nev. They had two children, Gary Eugene and Suzanne. Surviving Hurschel are his wife of 69 years, Chloris Coppinger of Cortez; and his children, Gene Coppinger and wife, Mary Ellen of Cortez and Suzanne Martin of Cortez. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Michael Shane Coppinger of Cheyenne, Wyo., Susan Holland of Windsor, Colo., Gregory Martin of Texas and Kendra Carroll of Texas; his great-grandchildren, William Coppinger, Megan Cardenas, Jackson Holland, Nicholas Coppinger, Jaesei Carroll, Zak Carroll, and Zakhiah Carroll; and his sister, Betty Wiley of Utah. Hurschel was preceded in death by his parents; and by his siblings, Boneva Hall and Doyle Coppinger. Memorial contributions may be made in Hurschel Coppinger's name to the Church of Christ.
