Hubert "Herb" Karn

HUBERT “HERB” KARN Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, Hubert “Herb” Karn will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Reverend Erika Meyer will officiate. Cremation will follow the services with entombment to be at St. Barnabas Episcopal Columbarium. Herb was born September 11, 1922 the son of Worthington and Florence Karn in Matador, Texas. He passed away at his home on Thursday, January 26, 2006 at the age of 83. During World War II Herb proudly served his country in the Coast Guard. He married Marjorie Bachop in Long Beach, Calif. on January 25, 1942. Herb and Marge were blessed to observe their 64th wedding anniversary just days before Herb’s passing. In 1949 the Karn family moved to Cortez. For twenty-eight years Herb was a salesman for Keesee Ford Motor Company. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Alkali Shrine, Elks Lodge and Lions Club. He was an active and supportive member of his community for 57 years. Surviving Herb are his beloved wife, Marge Karn of Cortez; his three sons, Hubert W. “Buster” Karn and his wife, Deborah of Durango, Greg Karn of Cortez, and Richard Karn and wife, Rhonda of Hot Springs, Ark.; son-in-law, Robert Groenewold; grandchildren, Debbie Nordman and husband, Steve and Robbie Groenewold of Norfolk, W.Va., Kim, Stephanie and Kristopher Karn of Seattle, Wash., and Brandon Karn and Tiffany Dixon and husband, J.D. of Fayetteville, Ark.; step-grandchildren, Kiley McGrew, Trey Glass, Jason Balmforth and Nicole Balmforth; and great grandchildren, Maddisyn McGrew, Chalin McGrew, Austin Dixon, Amine Hobbs and Robert Nordman. Preceding Herb in death was his only daughter, Pamela Groenewold. Memorial contributions can be made in Herb Karn’s name with First National Bank to benefit Shiners Crippled Children’s Hospital.
