HORTENCIO ALVAREZ Funeral Mass for Cortez resident Hortencio Alvarez will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Visitation has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday evening at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with a Rosary Service following at 7:00 p.m. Hortencio was born February 17, 1933 in El Paso, Tex. the son of Ceferino and Felicitas (Alvarado) Alvarez. He passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 84. He served time in the army and was a veteran of the Korean War. Hortencio Alvarez was a loving man. He enjoyed the simple things life had to offer. Hortencio survives through his loving family. Surviving Hortencio are his wife of 63 years, Blanca Alvarez of Cortez; his children, Patricia Quezada (Julio) of King City, Ore., Rudy Alvarez (Elizabeth) of Yucaipa, Calif., Gloria Jeziorski (Fred) of Beaverton, Ore., Angela Abueg of Daily City, Calif., Rebecca Quinonez (Jesse) of Cortez, Tommy Alvarez (Chris) of Rialto, Calif., Carlos Alvarez (Irene) of Redlands, Calif., and Yolanda Robinson of Palm Springs, Calif.; by 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; and by his brother, Nicholas Alvarez (Ofelia) of Roland Heights, Calif. Hortencio was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brothers, Manuel and Roberto Alvarez.
