HERMAN GARCIA Memorial services for Cortez resident Herman Garcia will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Leroy Garcia will be officiating. Herman was born on May 28, 1915 in Roswell, N.M. to Jose and Jesusita (Torres) Garcia. He passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center in Durango. Herman was 88 years old. Herman's favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, the outdoors, and panning for gold. Herman’s children, Joe Garcia and wife, Sylvia of Farmington, N.M., Johnny Garcia and wife, Gloria of Mancos, Jessie Vialpando and husband, Raymond of Cortez, Raymond Garcia and wife, Judy of Cortez, Leroy Garcia and wife, Peggy of Farmington, N.M., and Jenny Martinez of Cortez survive him. He leaves 20 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren; as well as his brother, Salmon Garcia of Stockton, Calif. Preceding Herman in death were his parents; and three sisters and four brothers.
