HELEN JULIA WILLIAMSON Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Helen Julia Williamson will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 31, at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. A visitation has been scheduled for Thursday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. The daughter of Stephen and Julia (Blezs) Beres, Helen was born on August 23, 1926 in Lorain, Ohio. She passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at her home at the age of 79. First and foremost in Helen’s life was her family. Whether it was special family fishing trips or homemade Christmas stockings, her family always knew just how special they were to her. Helen was very proud of the fact that she worked for the Montezuma County Assessor’s Office for 27 years. She was also a longtime member of the Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church. Surviving Helen are her children, Kay Parker and husband, Robert of Coaldale, Colo., and Ken Williamson and wife, Bev of Cortez; her grandchildren, Julie Gavin and husband, Todd, Matthew Hammond and wife, Chrystal, Heath Hammond and wife, Charish, Charley Williamson, and Nick Williamson. She also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Kenzie and Trevis Gavin, Anajia and Portia Hammond, and Owen Hammond; as well as her sisters, Vera Mae Brackin and Lillian Peitz both of Pueblo, Colo., and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan Larson and husband, Mack of Denver, Colo. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul LaMont Williamson; and her brother, William Beres. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen’s memory to Hospice of Montezuma.
