HELEN EILEEN RAY Memorial services for lifelong Cortez resident, Helen Eileen Ray will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Reverend Leigh Waggoner will officiate. Helen was born September 7, 1922 in Englewood, Colo. the daughter of James Barkley and Edna Merle (Corin) Lindsay. She passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the age of 88. Helen was a longtime member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and P.E.O. Always outgoing and friendly, Helen never knew a stranger. She was an accomplished artist, enjoyed time spent gardening and playing Bridge. Helen will be greatly missed by family and friends. Surviving Helen are her two daughters, Sandra Lamb and husband, Gregory of Lexington, Ky. and Rickie Rowe and husband, Alan of Dolores; by four grandchildren, Kory Simmons and wife, Leslie of Albuquerque, N.M., Kody Simmons of Denver, Colo., Shannon Rowe and Missy Montgomery of Dolores, and Shelby Rowe of Dolores; and by eight great grandchildren. Also surviving Helen are her siblings, Richard Lindsay of Cortez, Betty Dillon of Mancos, Jane Field of Quincy, Wash., Walter Ertel and wife, Bobby Jo of Cortez and Donald Ertel and wife, Percy of Sunnyvale, Calif. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Melvin Ray in 2003; her brother, John Ertel; and her sister, Virginia Mosher.
