HAZEL MAY CORRALES Funeral services for lifelong Mancos resident, Hazel May Corrales will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 7 at St. Rita Mission Catholic Church in Mancos. Interment will follow at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Father Derrek D. Scott will be officiating. A prayer vigil has been scheduled for Thursday evening at St. Rita Mission beginning at 7 p.m. Hazel was born on July 17, 1928 in Gallina, N.M. the daughter of Antonio Florance and Antonia (Chavez) Mestas. She passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at the Valley Inn Nursing Home at the age of 77. Hazel married the late Anselmo Corrales. She became a dedicated homemaker who loved sewing and making quilts. Surviving Hazel are her daughter, Alfey Leon and husband, Pete; her grandson, Joseph A. Leon and wife, Brandy; and great-grandchildren, Kedley Smith and Eligah Leon all of West Valley City, Utah. She leaves her siblings, Joe R. Mestas, Frankie J. Mestas both of Mancos, Annie Martinez, Molly Sanchez and husband, Charlie, Virginia Pena and husband, Raymond all of Ogden, Utah, Sally Alcon and husband, Desiderio of Blanco, N.M., Margaret Sanchez and husband, Joe, Helen Abeyta and husband, Emilio all of Ogden, Utah, and Bessie Martinez of Roy, Utah. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Anselmo; and her sister, Lilly Velasquez.
