GRETA CLEVER Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident, Greta Clever will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 21 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Sylvan Cemetery. Reverend Father Matthew S. Mayes will be officiating. Greta was born on December 14, 1911 in Elk City, Okla. the daughter of Henry Thomas and Jessie Lee (Smith) Galloway. She passed away on Monday, May 17, 2004 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital. Greta was 92 years old. Graduating from Cortez Union High at the Calkins building, Greta later became a very active member of her community. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Christian Women's Association, Democratic Women of Montezuma County and was a longtime volunteer at the Cortez Cultural Center. Her favorite pastimes included collecting Indian jewelry, artifacts and rugs. A passion of Greta's was skiing. She skied longer than anyone could believe, hitting the slopes well into her late eighties. Surviving Greta are her children, Norman Dean Clever and wife, Carla of Pleasant View, and Beverly Ann Lawrence, and husband, Arthur of Albuquerque, N.M.; two grandsons, Donald Clever and Robert Clever; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, Toni and Kayleen Clever. She leaves her siblings, Paul Galloway of Omaha, Neb., Howard Galloway of Farmington, N.M., Ralph Galloway of Montrose, Colo., Wilma Willey of Grass Valley, Calif., Maxine Bartz of Virginia Beach, Va. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Donald William Clever in February 2002; and her brother and sister, Daren Galloway and Helen Stavely. Memorial contributions can be made in Greta's name to the Cortez Cultural Center.
