GRACE MARIE GILPIN Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident Grace Marie Gilpin will be held on Monday, January 7 at 10 a.m. the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, M Road Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Bishop Spencer Smith will officiate. Visitations have been scheduled for Sunday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel and Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. to service time at the church. Marie was born on November 13, 1918 in Okfuskee, Okla. the daughter of Robert Jasper and Gracey Jewel (Smith) Foster. She passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at her residence at the age of 89. Marie was raised in the Ackman area where she met and was happily married on April 26, 1937 to Eugene Albert Gilpin for 38 wonderful years. Marie spent most of her working years in the school district. She was known as the “best bread maker.” Marie also worked for five years at the high school and then she spent seven years driving the Summit Ridge route for Downey Elementary School. Marie also devoted her time to the Cultural Center for over seven years. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she held many callings. She is loved by many and missed by all. Marie enjoyed time spent gardening and making quilts. At a family reunion in 1998, all of Marie’s grandchildren received a handmade quilt that she made for them with love. Surviving Marie are her children, Robert Francis Gilpin and wife, Bonnie of Wisconsin, Angela Marie Gilpin Kuykendall and husband, John of Cortez, Pearlene Jane Gilpin Vansickle and husband, Stephen of Oklahoma, Isaac Eugene Gilpin of Cortez, Wanda Vee Gilpin St. John of Cortez, Jessey Joy Gilpin Sr. of Cortez, and Naddrene “June” Gilpin Beckham and husband, William of Texas; her foster child, Elery Sales; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Gilpin; and her sons, Gerald Dean Gilpin and Willie Mack Gilpin. Memorial contributions may be made in Marie’s name to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, M Road Chapel.
