Gordon Rex Orton

GORDON REX ORTON Funeral services for Dolores resident Gordon Rex Orton will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 31 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints, M Road Chapel. Interment will take place at Panguitch Community Cemetery in Panguitch, Utah on Saturday, August 1 at 6 p.m. Visitation has been scheduled for Friday afternoon from 4 to 4:45 p.m. at the church. Gordon was born on February 10, 1930 in Panguitch, Utah the son of Max and Thelma Vilate (Pendleton) Orton. He passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Valley Inn Nursing Home at the age of 79. On February 3, 1955, Gordon married Magretta Arlene Watson in Grand Junction, Colo. Gordon loved rocks and minerals and for many years, he owned and operated a rock and mineral store in Ouray, Colo. Gordon was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In his free time, Gordon enjoyed golfing, and collecting stamps and coins. Surviving Gordon are his wife of 54 years, Arlene Orton of Dolores; and his children, Lori Leigh Orton Taylor and husband, Mark of Denver, Colo., Joanna Rae Smith of Dolores, and Whitney Arlene Hollenbeck and husband, Chris of Lewis. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher, and Ashley Taylor, and Kira and Levi Smith; his great-grandchildren, Jack and Aubrey Taylor, Tula Taylor, and Paxton Taylor; and his siblings, Max Orton of West Jordan, Utah, and Maxine Haws of Hurricane, Utah. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents.
