GILBERT TED "GIL" HIGHLAND Memorial services for Cortez resident Gilbert Ted "Gil" Highland will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 20 at the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Following the memorial services the Highland family invites friends and family to join them in a potluck open house at the Highland residence, 12299 Road G in Cortez. Gil was born on November 22, 1950 in Brush, Colo. the son of Wayne Bart and Mabel Lou "Scotte" (McQueen) Highland. He passed away on Monday, November 8, 2010 at his residence at the age of 59. On June 15, 2002 Gil married Agatha Dzielska at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cortez. Gil spent many years working for the Colorado Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer. In his free time, Gil loved to cook and garden. Time spent with his friends and family brought Gil's life much happiness. Surviving Gil are his wife, Agatha Highland of Cortez; his parents, Bart and Scotte Highland of Cortez; his step-children, Gosia Peciak-Light and husband, Chase of Cortez and Jasio Peciak of Denver, Colo.; and his siblings, Malcolm Highland of Loveland, Colo., Raye Highland and husband, Bill Brown of Castle Rock, Colo., and Penny Stevens and husband, Joe of Cortez. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in Gil's name to Citizen's State Bank. The fund will be used to assist spinal cord injured patients.
