GEORGIA LOU JOHNSON Funeral services for lifelong area resident Georgia Lou Johnson will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 9 at the Cortez Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, M Road Chapel. Bishop Spencer Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at the Sylvan Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Sunday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Georgia was born December 12, 1928 in Sylvan, Colo. the daughter of Joseph Robert and Lucy Marie (Pharo) Lanier. She passed away on Friday, October 6, 2006 at the Valley Inn Nursing Home at the age of 77. Georgia attended school in Sylvan and Dolores County and at the New Mexico School of Commerce. On August 24, 1947 Georgia married Charles Edward “Buddy” Johnson in Dolores, Colo. To this union six children were born, Linda, Lanier, Gus, Reba, Kim and Gail. Georgia spent her life as a dedicated mother and homemaker. Georgia was known as a “top notch” Kirby vacuum saleswoman. She was devoted to her church and she had served as Primary President of the LDS Church. Surviving Georgia are her husband of 59 years, Charles “Buddy” Johnson of Dolores; her children, Lanier Johnson and wife, Darla of Salt Lake City, Utah, Gus Johnson and wife, Roseanne also of Salt Lake City, Utah, Reba Short and husband, Lee of Dolores, Kim Jarvis and husband, Alan of Chesterfield, Mo., and Gail Perkins and husband, Kim of Dolores; and 28 grandchildren, and 40 great grandchildren. Her brother, Duane Lanier of Pleasant View also survives Georgia. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Linda Sprague; and three brothers, Robert, Gus, and Joseph Lanier; and two sisters, Joanne Lanier and Pearl Louise Howard.
