GEORGIA LAURA ROMERO Funeral Mass for lifelong Mancos resident, Georgia Laura Romero will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 13 at St. Ritas Catholic Church, 203 S. Main in Mancos. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Rosary services will be held Thursday evening beginning at 7:30 p.m. at St. Ritas Catholic Church. Surrounded by Our Heavenly Father and all His Angels, Georgia Laura Romero, longtime resident of Mancos, Colo., was led to the gate of Heaven on Sunday, July 8, 2007 in Cortez, Colo. at the age of 92. Georgia was born on June 6, 1915 in Encenada, N.M. to Celestino and Cleofas Velasquez. In 1945 Georgia arrived in Mancos where she met what would be the love of her life, Joe A. Romero. Georgia lived a long wonderful life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was always surrounded by the loves of her life, Natalie, Cory, Alaena, Kole, Americus, Georgia (koko), Nicky, Brianna, Dante and Noah and always in her heart and mind was her great granddaughter, Jacki Ann Gallegos-Glover, daughter of her beloved grandson, Nick Gallegos. Georgia spent time traveling to Utah and New Mexico to visit her family. She loved doing word searches, talking on the phone, crocheting, making tortillas and bisocochitos for Natalie and watching her favorite TV shows (WWE Wrestling, Law and Order and Days of Our Lives). Georgia is survived by her daughters, Betty Romero of Mancos, Linda Valdez of Cortez, Gina Romero-Broze and husband, Matt of Cortez; Danielle Romero-Keller and husband, Steve of Albuquerque, N.M.; Mattie Quintana and husband, Chris of Dolores; and grandchildren, Natalie Celeste Romero of Albuquerque, N.M., Margaret Maestas and husband, Tommy, Jennifer Lopez and husband, Isisas; Cory Gallegos and wife, Lori, Chuck Gonzalez and wife, Marquita and their children. Also surviving Georgia are his sister, Bernice Martinez of Sunset, Utah; brother, Chris Velasquez of Mancos; her special niece and friend, Sally Martinez from Mancos; and many loving nieces and nephews from all over the U.S. Awaiting Georgia in Heaven are husband Joe; grandson, Nicholas Gallegos; parents, Celestino and Cleofas; as well as several brother and sisters.
