GEORGE WILLIAM “FRENCHIE” FRENCH, JR. Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident, George William French, Jr. will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 26 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. Frenchie was born on July 26, 1921 in Portland, Tex. the son of George W. and Dollye (Trice) French. He passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 83. 1941, San Antonio, Tex., Frenchie entered into the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served two tours in World War II. Frenchie was a pipefitter by trade, and stayed in that profession during his working years. On December 31, 1944 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Frenchie married Doris R. Brixey. He enjoyed riding horses, going to the mountains and camping. He adored and loved his family. Surviving Frenchie are his wife, Doris R. French of Cortez; his children, Vicki L. Linderholm and husband, Ed, and Steven L. French all of Lakewood, Colo. He leaves three grandchildren, Kristy and Wendy Linderholm of Los Angeles, Calif., and Holly Linderholm of Boulder, Colo. His siblings, Dorothy Harris of Lake Charles, La., Ella Kellogg, Nonie Singleton, and Leonard “Buz” French all of Portland, Tex. also survive Frenchie. Preceding him in death were his parents.
