GEORGE RAYMOND GEER Funeral services for Cortez resident, Army Pfc. George Raymond Geer will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 28 at the Dolores High School Gymnasium. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the U.S. Army Color Guard. George will lie in state at the Ertel Memorial Chapel Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. This visitation will continue all day Thursday. George was born Nov. 22, 1977 in Munising, Mich., the son of Harold R. and Lois M. (Long) Geer. George was killed in combat on Monday, January 17, 2005 at Camp Ramadi, Iraq. while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. George was a graduate of Dolores High School. He had a deep affection for cars and found work with local auto dealerships and tire companies. He was a member of the High Altitude Steel Car Club and the Four Corners Drag Race Association. In his free time, George loved jeeping in the mountains and road trips. Surviving George are his parents, Harold and Lois Geer of Cortez; his sister, Hope K. Geer also of Cortez; his grandmother, Shirley E. Geer of Coldwater, Mich.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A brother, Chad H. Geer preceded George in death in 1989. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of George R. Geer with the Blue Star Moms of America, 1423 E. Main St., PMB 232, Cortez or with the Citizens State Bank of Cortez or the Dolores State Bank.
