GEORGE HERMAN WAGNER Memorial services for lifelong Mancos resident George Herman Wagner will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 11 at the Mancos Community Center, 130 Grand Ave. The Reverend Mike Darmour will officiate. Herman was born on September 11, 1915 in Mancos the son of Albert C. and Ruth Alice (Perkins) Wagner. He passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at his residence at the age of 92. Herman married Abbie Jane Exon, December 26, 1937. Together they celebrated 63 years of marriage and had two children, Kareen and George Conrad. They shared a love of family, church, travel and the Mancos Valley. Herman was a man that was involved with many different groups and clubs. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, V.F.W., and he was a devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Herman served his community for 50 years on the Mancos Fire Department and he was a member of the Fire Protection Board. Volunteer work was very important to Herman, he spent his time assisting the Valley Inn Nursing Home, the Mancos Visitors Center and Museum, and he worked with the Mancos Valley Historical Society. Herman served his country in the Navy during WW II. Herman enjoyed giving back to his community and was honored as Mancos Citizen of the Year-1997. He was an avid Mancos Bluejays Fan receiving the "Super Fan" award from the Mancos School Board. In his free time, Herman liked hunting, fishing, and being with friends and family. One of the highlights of this last year was a fishing trip to Alaska and his first hot-air balloon ride over the Mancos Valley. Surviving Herman are his children, George Conrad Wagner and wife, Ann of Woodland Park, Colo., and Kareen Valdez and husband Rick "Dick" of Aurora, Colo.; his grandchildren, Robert Wagner of Homer, Alaska, Darin Wagner and wife, Leslie of San Diego, Calif., Greg Valdez and wife, Kristine of Aurora, Colo., and Vonda Kaye Elkins and husband, Bruce of Aurora, Colo.; his great-grandsons, Robbie, Brant, Charlie, Reed, Nick, Alex, Matthew, and Michael; and his faithful dog, Missy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Abbie Jane Wagner; and his brother, John Francis Wagner. Memorial contributions may be made in Herman's name to the Mancos Fire Department, P.O.
