GEORGE HACKLEY LAY Graveside services for lifelong Dolores resident, George Hackley Lay will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 5 at the Cortez Cemetery. George was born on August 27, 1918 in Wellington, Mo. the son of George Washington and Anna Caroline “Nora” (Breuer) Lay. He passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at his home in Dolores at the age of 87. George worked for the Dolores County Road Crew for a short time. His true passion was for ranching. His animals were his family. Surviving George are his siblings, Hannah Louise Elder of Grand Junction, Colo., Martha Elizabeth “Liz” Belmear of Pagosa Springs, Colo., Alice Susannah Partridge-Randol of Cortez; and his large extended family. Preceding him in death were his parents; as well as six sisters, and four brothers. Memorial contributions can be made in George’s memory to Hospice of Montezuma.
