GENEVA BARBARA SPORE Funeral Mass for longtime area resident Geneva Barbara Spore will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 6 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. A Rosary service has been scheduled for Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Geneva was born the daughter of Frank Martin and Pauline Virginia (Bohart) Spore on January 31, 1915 in Sparks, Okla. She passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 96. Geneva was a devoted member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. She was a wonderful cook and when the family gathered for dinner on Sundays, Genevas food disappeared quickly. She loved tending her garden and taking care of her sheep and chickens. Geneva also enjoyed sewing, camping and making quilts. When Geneva's sister-in-law passed away 28 days after giving birth to a daughter, Barbara, Geneva raised her like her like her own. Geneva went on to take exceptional care of Barbara and her six brothers and sisters until they were grown. Surviving Geneva are her nieces and nephews, Barbara Gustafson and husband, Gene of Mancos, Dee Fosnot and husband, Clifton of Cahone, Frank Spore of Dolores, and Mary Eble and husband, Bill of Ft. Collins, Colo.; and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Geneva was preceded in death by her parents; by her siblings, Harley Spore, Mathew "Bill" Spore, Joe Spore, Leo Spore, Lawarence Spore, Julius Spore, Ralph Spore Sr., Arthur Spore and Frank Spore; by her nephews, Norman Spore and Ralph Spore Jr.; and by her niece, Cathy Vincent. Memorial contributions may be made in Geneva's name to the Dolores State Bank to assist the remodeling project at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
