Visitation has been set for Tuesday evening at Ertel Memorial Chapel from 4 to 6 p.m. Gaylord was born July 30, 1917 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Theodore and Lola (Bell) Lyman. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the age of 95. A career Navy man, Gaylord served his country proudly, surviving the Pearl Harbor attack as well as a veteran of the Korean War. The Lyman family humbly claimed they were a Gold Star Family. Gaylord gave 20 years to his military career retiring as Chief Machinist's Mate. After discharge from the Navy, Gaylord spent another 20 years working for Atlantic Richfield / British Petroleum. On March 12, 1955 Gaylord married Beverly Dolores Haddan in Santa Barbara, Calif. Gaylord and Beverly relocated to the Dolores River Valley where he spent the next 40 years. A wonderful dancer Gaylord preferred the music of the Big Band Era; but most of all he loved the time spent with the grandkids. Surviving Gaylord are his daughter, Linda Gregory and husband, Gary of Dolores; four grandchildren, Tiffany Huff and husband, Lonnie of Dolores, Kelsey Carver of Scottsbluff, Neb., Keenan Carver and wife, Katie of Fort Collins, Colo. and Kalen Carver of Lander, Wyo.; by three great grandchildren, Rylan Huff, Paige Horne and Kaysie Horne; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Gaylord was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Beverly Lyman; his parents, Theodore and Lola Lyman; and by six brothers and one sister. Memorial contributions can be made to Boys Town, PO Box 6000, Boys Town, Neb. 68010 or to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, Tex. 79105, both charities that Gaylord supported throughout his life.
