Gary Dean Quintana

Graveside services for Cortez resident Gary Dean Quintana will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. July 9, 2021 at Summit Ridge Cemetery.
Gary was born September 12, 1956 in Cortez, CO to Susie Quintana. He passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, CO at the age of 64.
As a young man, Gary enjoyed herding sheep with his uncle, playing football and basketball in school and playing baseball with his family. He met the love of his life, Agnes Chavez at the local 70’s hangout, The Burger Boy Drive In. They joined in marriage on April 8, 1978. Together they had two wonderful daughters, Amie-Sue and Jennifer. Gary was an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting, fishing, gardening and fixing anything that was broken. Gary’s favorite pass times were spending time with his wife, fishing with his grandchildren and being the number one fan at all his grandkids sporting events. He had a huge impact on anyone he met. There was not a challenge that he did not meet head on and with a positive attitude. His life as a stoic man encouraged all around him to remain optimistic.
Gary leaves behind his beloved wife, Agnes (Chavez) Quintana; daughters, Amie-Sue Archibeque and husband Jason Archibeque of Dolores, Jennifer Blackmer and husband Charley Blackmer of Dolores; grandchildren, Akiesha Quintana, Jenna Wilson, Dylan Archibeque and Joe Blackmer; siblings, Chris Jr. Quintana, Diane Velasquez, James Chavez and wife, Teresa, Abe Chavez Jr. and wife Becky, and Betty Chavez; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by Susie Quintana, Abe Chavez, Mayme Chavez, Ronnie Quintana and Trish Coulter.
