GALEN EUGENE FRIEND Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Galen Eugene Friend will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27 at Ertel Funeral Home. Military Honors will be provided by Montezuma County VFW Post #5231. Galen was born September 26, 1949 in Grand Junction, Colo. the son of George Perry and Vivian Eileen (Sanders) Friend. He passed away at Vista Grande Inn on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the age of 64. On June 5, 1980 in Cortez, Galen married Cheryl Ann Doser. Galen served his country in the United States Army as a Specialist E-5 from November 1969 to May 1973. He was a member of John Derrick Halls VFW Post #5231 in Mancos. Galen was an artist and enjoyed painting. Using his talents, Galen loved painting outdoor building murals. Galen is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Cortez; children, Christopher Friend of Tulsa, Okla., Hollie Clure and husband, Christopher of Boise, Ida., and Dusten Friend of Cortez; step-children, Jerry Brooks of Cortez, Crystal Brooks of Burley, Ida., and Jessica Hines of Durango; as well as ten grand children. He was preceded in death by his father, George Friend; and mother, Vivian Edwards.
