Frank Wesley Boston

September 23, 1924 — January 19, 2017

Frank Wesley Boston, also referred to as "Frankie" or just "Boston", was born September 23, 1924 and departed this life on January 19, 2017 in the same town of his birth; Mancos, Colorado. A lifelong resident of Colorado, Frank grew up in Mancos where he attended school, worked on the family ranch, and helped his stepfather at the Red Arrow goldmine. He started a family as a young man, fathering 3 children with the late June Boston. Soon after, he began his 30 year career as a truck driver. After driving more than 3 million accident free miles, he retired and resumed his passion as a big game outfitter and as a guide, leading countless expeditions through the San Juan Mountains. He would go on to marry two more times, assuming the role as stepfather to 2 children with Nancy Boston and 2 stepchildren with Barbara Richhart. Frank was larger than life. He worked hard, played hard, laughed often and gave generously. He will be remembered for so many different attributes including his sparkling blue eyes, his "Boston Surprise" (it started with eggs and ended with all the leftovers in the refrigerator), the way he laughed harder than everyone else when he told a joke, his penchant for naming his vehicles, and his old school bus named, "Spare Time." Anyone courageous enough to challenge Frank to a game of pitch will tell you that when he leaned back in his chair and yelled "the writing's on the wall" or "shoot the moon", it was a foreboding that his wallet was about to get a little fatter and yours a little thinner. Frank was a man of all trades a rancher, horse trader, stock and contractor. He supplied livestock for films, dude ranches, rodeos, and even the opera, Pagliacci, which he attended, no doubt, in cowboy boots and hat. He loved attending livestock auctions, watching westerns, dancing, driving a team of horses or a wagon in a parade, and sharing stories of his life. He lived for the moment and fulfilled his lifelong dream when he went on an African safari and participated in a wild horse round up on Mesa Verde. As his health declined, he spent his final years at the Mancos Valley Inn. There, he was able to enjoy the company of his sister until her passing in late November 2016. His entire family will be forever grateful for Jeanne Smith, Frank's niece, who spent countless hours attending to his needs. Her patience, care, devotion and selflessness meant the world to him and to them. Frank is preceded in death by his mother, Iola Johnson; his father, Paul Boston; his stepfather, his son, sister, infant daughter, stepson, two favorite horses, Shadow and Crow; and his cat, Rover. He leaves behind 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 daughter, 3 step children, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, outlaws and friends. There will be 2 memorial services to honor his life, legacy. One will be in the San Juan Mountains of Archuleta County this July. The other in Park County, date and details still to be determined. Anyone wishing to attend should contact Barbara Richhart at bfboston@fone.net
