FRANCIS D. “DUSTY” RHODES Memorial services for Francis Delois “Dusty” Rhodes, of Cortez will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 8 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Francis, or Dusty as he was known by friends, was born Oct. 18, 1935 at McPhee, Colo., the son of Francis Ole and Mary (Ferguson) Rhodes. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the age of 71. On March 21, 1959, Dusty married Madeline Ayton in Cromer, Norfolk, England. They celebrated 48 years of marriage. Dusty served his county in the Air Force and after 20 years of devotion he retired. He loved to fish and that activity is what brought him to Colorado. Dusty was a handyman that enjoyed working on projects and “tinkering” around. Surviving Dusty are his loving wife, Madeline Rhodes of Cortez; his children, Laurie Rae Maw of Layton, Utah, and Matthew R. Rhodes of Ogden, Utah; and his grandchildren, Sonya Langston and fiancé, Mike Kinsey, Jr. of Layton, Utah, and Cajun Dawson also of Layton. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Dakota and Nova and Dusty has a great-grandbaby to be born in July; his siblings, Darlene Rhodes of Tucson, Ariz., Iva McCoy and husband, Jim of Ignacio, Colo., and Teri Kile and husband, Steve of Salt Lake City, Utah; and his aunts, Helen Ferguson of Victoria, Tex., and Garnet Ferguson of Ridge Crest, Calif. Dusty was preceded in death by his parents.
